Toe Warmers!

Sis Hudgens & Wahlen

That is a long busy week!!  Too bad Heidi isn't aloud to drive by herself yet or you would have a handy extra driver.  I am sorry to see that Dad isn't feeling well, but I am glad that Grandpa has been a help.

(After my bike accident) I just walked when I had a cane, but now I can walk unassisted and it is actually easier to ride my bike.  Crazy huh?

By the way, I got someone to make pepper steak for me.  Wasn't as good.  She said she didn't follow the directions and in my head I was like, "Why would you do that!?!"  It was good, but not like it is supposed to be.  I will just have to make it myself one of these days.

I also made pancakes last Sunday from scratch because I really just wanted a pancake Sunday.  Members have given us breakfast for dinner, but pancakes on Sunday morning is just tradition.  We didn't have any Bisquick, so we got a recipe to make them from scratch.  We used wheat flour instead of regular (ok), applesauce instead of eggs (ok), and Sister Wahlen wouldn't let us use some of Sister Canfield's huge gallon of milk so we used water instead (not ok).  They were really bland because she also wouldn't put the butter in the batter.  She likes to cook healthy if you didn't notice. I am just glad that I put chocolate chips in mine, otherwise they would have had absolutely no flavor and would not have been worth eating.  I will just have to plan ahead next time.

This has been a long crazy week for me too.  On Monday we went to Walmart as usual and we were just looking at the clearance stuff when an employee asked us for the time.  I think she saw our name tags because she then asked us to pray for her.  naturally this peaked our interest and after talking with her for a bit we exchanged contact information.  Our mission president has said that Walmart in the Celestial kingdom for finding investigators, so this was exciting.  She even texted us this morning saying she had changed her number and to give us the new number.  We are looking forward to making an appointment with her.

Tuesday was the cold day. For the first time in my life I used hand and toe warmers. I didn't even know they made toe warmers!  You just stick them to the bottom of our socks for toasty warm toes!  They are great! It didn't actually snow, but they closed the schools, ice fell from the sky and created a thin layer of ice, and it was really cold all day.  No one told me about that when I got called to Houston!  But I survived and it was fine.  Still have all my fingers and toes anyway.

We made treats for one of the member's neighbors on Wednesday.  They are potential investigators and Sister Farnsworth told us that they love sweets, so we figured that would be a good way to introduce ourselves.  We also stopped by mutual to talk to the Young Women about doing missionary work.  They were too busy playing basketball to talk though so we went home.  The big interfaith quilting bee is coming up here so we went to a members house to work on binding some quilts.  I got the hang of it, but Sister Wahlen just gave up.  I did manage to break one of the needles though!

On Friday we helped a member set up for a stake activity days activity before district meeting.  We were put to the task of using the air compressor to blow up something like 260 balloons.  Sister Wahlen literally tied balloons til her fingers bled.  I had to tell her that we should switch and she was like, "Yeah, maybe we should", so I tied the rest while she blew them up.
Hidden pathway to Cottage Gardens

On Saturday we managed to trek through some bushes and find/forge a new path to one of the neighborhoods we had previously been unable to get to on out bikes. Now we can get to all of our neighborhoods except for one.  For now.  Eventually we hope to find another secret path as we like to call them.  Only thing is that it takes us 45 minutes to get there, but at least we don't have to have to worry about getting a ride now!

We went to a member's house for dinner that night and I mentioned that I like to put stickers on my letters and she gave us a bunch that she doesn't use. So if my letters have a bunch of random Lisa Frank stickers on them, that's why.

I hope y'all are having a great week and that you can keep your busy lives from totally wearing you down!

Love, Sister Hudgens
